Mostly I’m writing
in the kitchen. If Martina in the apartment upstairs doesn’t get
her Techno-music-tantrum or senile Mrs. Paulisch downstairs doesn’t
knock against the walls to get rid of my artistic energies that contaminate
her rooms its quiet silent. I can still hear the muted noises from the
streets. Every now and then the clangour from the glass-containers in
the backyard is audible from the outside. When the kids from the day-care
center start screaming it is time for a break. My ideal writing place
would be a desk at a window with ocean view. The sound of the crashing
waves would be enough background noise. To get in the mood for writing
I decorated my walls with photographs of authors whose work inspired me.
I asked every one of them to write me a motivating sentence. My collection
is still small. Nevertheless watching the pictures helps me to remember
that a masterly told story can bring magic into our world. |

MO HAYDER Rarely an author is discussed as controversial as Mo Hayder. Her mixture of genres isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Marketed as a writer of crime not everyone likes the elements of horror. Some consider her interest in the abysmal depths of human minds strange and even disgusting. I met an affectionate, interesting and keen woman. THE TREATMENT BIRDMAN TOKIO PIG ISLAND RITUAL |

TAD WILLIAMS If you have the chance to go to a reading by Tad Williams don’t miss the opportunity. He is a born entertainer. The Otherland novels are among the best fantasy has to offer. Although slow in some parts Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn is a classic.

MINETTE WALTERS To be honest – Acid Row impressed me more than the writer herself. Her picture reminds me not to let my own achievements go to my head. I remember her self-approval with mixed feelings. Dear Mrs. Walters, we are ALL human beings – not just categories of important and unimportant. |
